Message from the Head Teacher
Croeso cynnes! On behalf of myself, the governors, staff and pupils of Coed Glas Primary I would like to welcome you to our happy and successful school.
The purpose of this website is to provide an interesting insight into our school, to convey important information, and to celebrate the excellent work produced by pupils and staff.
I hope that our website will aid communication and that you will find it both useful and informative. If there is anything you would like to see included please let us know.
Coed Glas Primary School is a community united in providing all our children with ‘roots to grow and wings to fly’.
We strongly believe that this vision is the driving force each and everyday. We want all of our children to develop strong ‘roots’ for learning, behaviour and wellbeing. We will create opportunities for all of our children to develop their own ‘wings’ of creativity, independence, confidence and an enjoyment of learning.
We strive to deliver three core principles:
In addition, our children have agreed on their own principles which they strive to achieve each day:
We smile and say ‘bore da / prynhawn da’
We always help each other
We care for everyone and everything
We keep ourselves safe and healthy
We do our best and challenge ourselves
The whole school community is extremely proud of the reputation Coed Glas has for offering an exceptionally good all-round education for the children. We set out to provide opportunities for all children to achieve. We provide a broad educational experience which recognises the need for children to grow up at a healthy pace and to have a balanced diet of academic, social, cultural, physical and spiritual experiences. Coed Glas is a friendly school, with warm and positive relationships between staff, pupils and parents. We have a large, open setting and good facilities to support the busy and exciting lives our pupils lead.
School life should be fun and fulfilling and every child should have the experience of being valued individually, understood and encouraged by their teachers, supported where necessary and challenged to fulfil their potential. Parents too should feel fully involved in their children's school lives, with a genuine partnership between home and school, and excellent communications to achieve the very best for our pupils. Children at Coed Glas will learn the virtues of good manners and respect, the joy of learning and succeeding, and the pleasures to be gained from joining in with a wide range of stimulating experiences with their friends.
Our Governors work closely with the head teacher and staff to provide a range of excellent learning opportunities designed to ensure that all children experience success at Coed Glas.
Families of our current pupils perceive Coed Glas as a community, a friendly environment with a strong emphasis on pastoral care, support and guidance. We aim to engender curiosity, hard work and a willingness to get involved in our community.
The learning environment is purposeful, creative and challenging. There is a strong emphasis on the acquisition of secure basic skills in English and Mathematics and the development of good learning skills. We provide an environment which promotes the culture, heritage and language of Wales. We believe that pupils learn best when they participate actively in lessons, with a real sense of challenge.
We strive to ensure that physical recreation is an integral part of life at Coed Glas. Children have the opportunity to participate in PE lessons each week as well as being able to enjoy the physical experiences as part of the school's extra curricular provision. We actively promote healthy lifestyles by encouraging healthy eating, physical exercise and emotional well being.
Your child will be encouraged to use their imagination, and will develop the confidence to be creative in art and music as well as participating in performances. There will be many opportunities for your child to get involved, through regular clubs, performances and peripatetic lessons.
Our school council, Eco council, school nutrition action group and older pupils all play an important role in Coed Glas. These groups are closely involved in the school and help the younger pupils. They ensure that pupils' ideas and views are valued and help to engender a family atmosphere where everyone works together. These groups also give pupils an opportunity to develop leadership, decision making and teamwork skills that will benefit them during their time in school and beyond.
Coed Glas is a caring and open environment and we strongly believe that it is good for our pupils to see the teaching staff working closely together with our parents and carers, supporting each other for their mutual benefit. The Parent Teacher Association is integral to this partnership, as is the open door policy we operate.
I am incredibly proud to be the Head Teacher of this successful, welcoming and forward thinking school. I look forward to developing strong relationships with the parents and community of Coed Glas so that together we can ensure that all of the children enjoy school life and achieve success.
